Days
3 -4 -- Denali National Park
Each day includes a choice of options
to
explore new areas of the Park. Local
naturalist guides take us off the roads, far
from tourist crowds, into areas where one
is
likely to see caribou and moose, grizzly
bears and wolves. We walk to tundra ponds
to
find moose and migratory waterfowl, and up
ridges where Dall sheep eke out their
precarious existence. We explore broad gravel
bars of glacial rivers and rolling tundra
hillsides, scanning carefully for foraging
bears.

sightings of wolves and grizzly bears. From
the park entrance, travel five hours south
to

the
early evening, have dinner in a lively local
restaurant and retire to downtown

6 -- King Salmon/Katmai National Park
After an early breakfast, catch a flight
to King Salmon, on the Alaska Peninsula at
the edge of Katmai National Park. From there,
small planes fly to Brooks Camp, for up close
observation and photography of brown bears
feeding on spawning salmon. Special platforms
enable viewing from a safe distance, while
rangers and OBP guides educate us on
precautions when in bear country. Come
evening, return to King Salmon to settle into
hotel lodging and to enjoy dinner at a local
restaurant.

the valley floor on a steep, but
well-maintained trail, to experience the
myriad colors of this ash and pumice
landscape up close. Return to Brooks Camp

glacially-carved fjords and mountains that
thrust out of the sea, scanning the protected
