Day
1 -- Fort Benton
Arrive in Great Falls by early
afternoon.
Begin this journey with a visit to
the Lewis
and Clark Interpretive Center, providing
a
comprehensive overview of the region's
history. Afterwards, travel to the
quiet town
of Fort Benton, the homebase for these
first
couple of nights. Settle into the
beautifully
restored Grand Union Hotel, where
a welcome dinner and a brief trip
orientation takes place. Tonight,
stroll the waterfront park, imagining
how it looked when the Corps first
arrived at this peaceful spot on the
Missouri.

Day
2 -- Fort Benton
This morning, take a step back in
time
with a canoe paddle down the beautiful
Missouri River. Local river guides provide
lively, living history of this portion
of the
famous journey along the river. Afterwards,
tour Fort Benton's historic museums.
This
evening, enjoy a festive dinner with
entertainment by the Lewis and Clark
Honor
Guard. Donned in full regalia, they
offer an
historical overview of the Corps of
Discovery.

3 |
Day
3 -- Three Forks
Start the day at the Ulm Pishkun
Buffalo
Jump, then enjoy a lakeside barbecue
lunch
and a scenic boat ride through the
famous
Gates of the Mountains. Observe the
limestone cliffs and scan the rocky
crags for mountain goats, bald eagles
and osprey. Make a short stop in Helena
to view the Montana Historical Society's
collection of Charlie Russell paintings
and bronzework. Continue on past the
Missouri's headwaters toward the Bridger
range, where Sacajawea pointed out
buffalo trails coming over Flathead
Pass. By day's end, arrive in Three
Forks to settle into this charming
historic and renovated hotel.

Day
4 -- Three Forks
Today, visit Headwaters State
Park, the
site of the expedition's discovery
of the
confluence of the Madison, Jefferson,
and
Gallatin Rivers, which form the great
Missouri. Enjoy a lovely, guided canoe
trip
on the Jefferson River, stopping at
one of
the expedition's campsites along the
way.
Keep an eye out for wildlife and abundant
waterfowl! Return to Three Forks for
dinner.

Day
5 -- Horse Prairie Ranch
The journey continues toward the
Continental Divide, following the Jefferson
River southwest to Twin Bridges and
the
Beaverhead River. See the famous landmark
Beaverhead Rock, then make a leisurely
drive to the site of Shoshone Cove and
Horse Prairie Creek, where Lewis first
encountered a Shoshone horseman. In
the afternoon, we arrive at the Horse
Prairie Ranch, our base of exploration
for the next three nights.

Day
6-7 -- Horse Prarie Ranch
Horse Prairie Ranch is an authentic
working cattle and guest ranch. It offers
a
full range of activities, including
horseback
riding, walking, mountain biking and
wildlife
viewing. During our visit, we make a
day trip
to Lemhi Pass where Lewis first unfurled
the
American flag on the Pacific side of
the
continent. Excursions are also planned
to the ghost town of Bannack;Montana's
first
territorial capital, Ross' Hole on the
Bitterroot River and the Big Hole National
Battlefield.

8 -- Butte or Bozeman
After an early breakfast, we travel
through expansive mountain valleys for
departures from the airport in Butte
or
Bozeman airport.
