  Fly Fishing 101

 • What is Fly Fishing?

 • Tippets & Indicators

What is tippet? Tippet is a clear piece of monofilament that is attached at the end of your leader in order to preserve it’s natural taper! Each time you remove a fly or get snagged and the fly breaks off, a section of your leader is lost. Tippet keeps the natural integrity of your leader without losing ability to present the fly properly.

What is a strike indicator? Usually made of poly-yarn or foam strike indicators are tied to or looped to the leader. Water depth and current speed will dictate the placement of the Indicator. Strike indicators enable the angler to fish sub-surface flies in a variety of depths within the water column. They also alert the angler at the very instant a fish takes the fly.
