Frequently Asked Questions About the MyOAN! Service
Q. I put in the CD and nothing
happens, the program doesn't install.
A. MyOAN! Connection Manger is designed to automatically
install when inserted into your CD ROM using a feature called Autorun.
The most likely reason for the install program not run automatically
is that the Autorun feature has been disabled on your computer.
To manually install MyOAN! Connection Manager, Go to the Start Button
and Select Run, and enter the following D:\remotep.exe, where D:
is the Drive letter of your CD ROM Drive or locate the remotep.exe
file in Windows Explorer and double click on it.
Q. I have a 56K modem, but I connect at a speed
less than this.
A. MyOAN! dialup access uses state of the art equipment
incorporating both V.90 and V.34 compatible technology. FCC regulation
prevents all devices attached to the telephone network from exceeding
a certain power output. As a result, the server modem limit set
to 53.333 kbps. This does not mean that you will not be able to
hit the higher speeds, it just decreases the likelihood of it.
Secondly, there are many factors that can influence the connection
rate and the speed at which you transfer data. Even though one end
of the connection is pure digital, there are things that can hamper
a modem connection, while not necessarily preventing it altogether.
Essentially, the qualities of the phone line play an essential role
in the speed of the connection.
Q. How do I dial out from my Hotel room or my office?
A. To change your dialing rules to accommodate dialing
a number to get an outside line, select the Properties button and
then select the Dialing Rules button from the Properties dialog
to open the Dialing Properties dialog box (see example below).
Add a new location by selecting the New button next to the "I am
dialing from:" list box and then enter a description such as "Hotel
Room". Then enter the number used to get an outside line such as
the number "9" into the "For long distance calls, dial" text box.
Then select OK, your phone number should now be updated to include
the outside line prefix.
Q. How do I turn off my call waiting, so I don't
get disconnected while I'm online?
A. To change your dialing rules to disable call waiting,
select the Properties button and then select the Dialing Rules button
from the Properties dialog to open the Dialing Properties dialog
box (see example below).
Add a new location by selecting the New button next to the "I am
dialing from:" list box and then enter a description such as "Home
w/call waiting". Then check the checkbox for "To disable call waiting,
dial:" and then select or enter the code to disable, such as "*70
or "1170", depending on your phone system. Then select OK, your
phone number should now be updated to include the disable call waiting
prefix.
Q. I can receive my email, but I cannot send.
A. If you have your email account with another provider,
you will most likely not be able to send email with your current
email settings. Most providers will only forward email from users
dialed directly to their service for security reasons. Check with
your email provider for the proper procedure to forward email when
connected with another provider.
Q. The "Save password" checkbox on my MyOAN! connection
manager is grayed out. What do I have to do to make that feature
active?
A. To make "Save password" available you must have
Client for Microsoft Networks installed as a Network component in
the Networks control panel. If it is not there, simply add it.
Q. How do I set my idle time before disconnecting?
A. To change your idle time, select the Properties
button and then choose the Options tab. Under the "Idle time before
disconnecting:" select the amount of idle time before the connection
is terminated.
