You don't have to shoot with other people or at regulation targets to have fun with air guns. Plinking can provide excitement for many shooters with some of the easiest preparations. Empty plastic film containers make lively targets: Just toss them out in soft dirt or sand and watch them jump away from you! Film can caps suspended from a branch turn in the wind and challenge the most able marksman. Soup cans are too easy to hit at air gun ranges – unless you toss them in the air.

Military gunnery schools have used tossed targets and BB guns to teach lead and swing – a cheap alternative to shotgunning! Whatever the game, choose your background carefully. You need a backstop or several hundred yards of open space behind that target.
